Today we celebrate the Feast of St Albert of Jerusalem who approved a Rule for the first Carmelites, who were hermits living on Mount Carmel, Palestine, in the early 13th Century.
Carmelite friars, nuns, religious sisters and laity still follow this rule of life today and hence St Albert is known as the "Lawgiver of Carmel".
His Rule of Life is the shortest of all the major religious rules - it will fit on to a single sheet of A4 paper! - but it is packed full of scriptural references and spiritual wisdom.
